National Awareness Day on Libraries at the Academy of Public Administration

On April 23rd, the National Awareness Day on Libraries was marked for the second time by the Academy of Public Administration, attended by the representatives of the teaching staff of the Academy of Public Administration (APAM), of the State University „Alecu Russo" of Balti (USARB), the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM), Information Society Development Institute (IDSI), as well as partners and observers from Romania, Greece and Norway.

Rector of the Academy of Public Administration, Oleg Balan, PhD, professor, said at the opening ceremony that, along with the Academy of Public Administration and Scientific Library of the Academy will celebrate a quarter of a century since its founding. Since 1993, the library has grown to 46,000 printed volumes. And this informational treasure is permanently completing. And on this professional day of librarians, an English Resource Center, created with the support of the British Council in Ukraine, is inaugurated at the Scientific Library.Rector Oleg BALAN together with Ana GOREA, English teacher, cut the blue ribbon, offering new possibilities of studying English.

The event continued with the inauguration of the Library's Multimedia Hall, recently created with the financial support of the European Commission, within the „Library Network Support Services: modernising libraries in Armenia, Moldova and Belarus through library staff development and reforming libraries [LNSS]” project,taking place under the Erasmus+ Program. About the Multimedia Hall services spoke Igor COJOCARU, PhD, IDSI Director, who has conducted a training activity within this room to check the quality of multimedia services and access to the library's information resources.

Greeting words were addressed by Angela REPANOVICI, PhD, professor, Transilvania University of Braşov, Romania, Cristina GHERMAN, administrator of the Erasmus + National Office, Elena HARCONIŢA, director of the Scientific Library of Alecu Russo University in Balti, with the presentation of „LNSS Project: Events and Achievements".

 

Rodica SOBIESKI-CAMERZAN, Director of the Scientific Library of the Academy of Public Administration, moderator of the event, in her speech „National Awareness Day - a new form of promoting the role of the library in society", has made a review of achievements within the National Awareness Day, 2017 edition, and Professional Librarian Day: participation in projects: „Library Network Support Services: modernising libraries in Armenia, Moldova and Belarus through library staff development and reforming libraries [LNSS]” and “Modernization of academic library services in Moldova” the charity action „Donate a Book - to Change a Destiny"dedicated to people with special needs, with a total of about 25 events on the development and modernization of libraries.

During the event some innovations implemented at the library such as: the APAM institutional repository, presented by librarian Sergiu CARCEA, and Koha - an integrated library system in application - presented by the librarian Igor NEAGA, were made public.

 

On the subjects approached spoke:Angela REPANOVICI, PhD, Professor, and Claudiu COMAN, Dean, Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania, Manolis KOUKOURAKIS, Director of the University Library of Crete, Greece, Ane LANDOY, University Library of Berghen, Norway, Nelly ȚURCAN, PhD, professor, USM, Silvia GHINCULOV, Director of the ASEM Scientific Library, Chairman of the REM Consortium.

The event was concluded with a Master Class entitled „Become a better teacher. Effective Teaching Methods using ICT„ provided by Angela Repanovici and Manolis Koukourakis, and, finally, the participants were handed certificates of participation to the National Awareness Day.
