Pilot Training 2: “Innovative online Library services for 21st century librarians”

On November 22, 2017, a Pilot Training 2 for Module 5: “Innovative online Library services for 21st century librarians”, developed within the project: “Library Network Support Services (LNSS): modernising libraries in Armenia, Moldova and Belarus through library staff development and reforming library services”, implemented within the Erasmus+ Program Capacity Building in Higher Education, was carried out at the Academy of Public Administration, attended by librarians, teachers, PhD and MA students at the Academy as well as international observers Jerald CAVANAGH and Padraig KIRBY, at Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland.

The Academy's rector, Oleg BALAN, Ph.D., professor, mentioned in the opening of the training works that it is a successful achievement of the Academy of Public Administration, together with other higher education institutions, within this project, the mission of which is the modernization of the libraries, the knowledge gained will be of real use to the day-to-day work of library staff, but also to teachers, PhD students and master students for Academic researchers, and guests can convince themselves that the Academy has good performances that deserve the full attention.

The Director of the Academic Library, Rodica SOBIESKI-CAMERZAN, Project Coordinator, underlined that, with the aim of modernizing and reforming libraries by training the staff, the project is a real support for the development of scientific research, for widening the sources of information, according to the requirements of the 21st century.

The Irish guest, Jerald CAVANAGH, also mentioned the urgent necessity that in the modern age everyone would know the advanced sources of information and the ways of their application in everyday activity, specifying that the LNSS project had two components: The Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership, and that it is a good opportunity to modernize the library network in the Republic of Moldova, the Scientific Library of the Academy being a model in this regard.

Ana SAMSON, the representative of the Erasmus + National Office, referred to the benefits of the Academy of Public Administration's participation in two projects of this program, which offers broad possibilities to advance and provide quality bibliographic services in line with the rigors of time.

Next, Natalia CHERADI, lecturer-expert, and Ana GUDIMA, lecturer, REM Consortium, presented modern information tools such as electronic catalogs, libraries, digital and virtual libraries, information technologies for libraries, platforms the integration of information resources for libraries, open electronic archives managed by libraries, bibliometric instruments.

The participants were also trained in practical applications regarding the information search strategy in LibUnivCatalog and in the databases, the archiving of the publications in the Institutional repositories, the bibliometric analysis of the scientific publications, and the retrieval of the information on the research using the modern information tools.

Finally, the first vice-rector of the Academy of Public Administration, Andrei GROZA, PhD, associate professor, handed the attendance certificates to the participants.
